More than € 800.000 in prizes to improve societal issues and foster innovation through technology
São Paulo, January 30th, 2014.- On January 27th, during the inauguration of Campus Party Brazil, two new FI-WARE Challenges were launched. These challenges form a series of programming competitions that are based on FI-WARE technology and its ecosystem (a "meeting point" for innovators) called FI-LAB. The prizes are granting a sum of € 800.000 for developers and entrepreneurs from all over the world, thus becoming the largest software application competition in the history of the European Commission and Campus Party. On February 1st (at 8:00 PM Sao Paulo) the award ceremony will take place and we will finally know who are the winners of the Smart City and Smart Business Challenges.
About FI-WARE
In 2011 the European Commission (EC) and major European ICT companies launched an ambitious Public-Private partnership (also known as the Future Internet PPP or FIPPP) that decided to work on a platform that represents a truly open alternative for the development and global deployment of applications in the Future Internet. It contains a series of APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) with specifications provided by the components of this platform, of truly open and royalty-free nature, granting FI-WARE a great differential value as a product in today's economy. And not just that: these specifications are supported by reference implementations of open code from platform components.
The biggest competition in the history of the European Commission and Campus Party
The first call for proposals is awarding these days more than € 400,000 to both finalists and winners of the first two Challenges, that revolves around ideas for Smart Cities and Smart Business & Industry. The awards will take place on February 1st at Campus Party Brazil, in the city of Sao Paulo.
Two new Challenges: Smart Society and FI-WARE Excellence
The Smart Society Challenge, with € 200,000 in prizes, is aimed at promoting initiatives that are innovative and that pursue benefits for today's Society, such as education, health, social inclusion, etc.
With € 141,000 in prizes, the FI-WARE Excellence Challenge, will award the winning titles to those internet applications that truly make the most out of FI-WARE technology. The Challenge is open to the development of applications of any kind as long as their implementation is based on the FI-WARE platform.
