FIWARE Foundation experienced three impactful days of innovation and connection at Smart City Expo World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, highlighting the importance of collaboration and innovative solutions for the future of smart cities.

With over 100 community members joining us, we proudly hosted ADDIX GmbH, Eviden, Red Hat, Ubiwhere, Secmotic, TeamDev S.r.l., AWS, GrupoTX, and the Urban Software Institute at our booth.

In addition, the event was enriched by key partners, such as Al-Madinah Region Development Authority, Deloitte, AERTIC, Alpha-Omega Technology, Beezee, Bettair Cities, CAPELON AB, DKSR – Data Competence Center for Cities & Regions, Elliot Cloud, Hypertegrity AG, Latitudo 40, Libelium, NEC Corporation, Nexus Geographics, Sirus, Uni Systems, Wirtschaftsagentur Wien, Virtual City Systems, European Space Agency – ESA, Signify, The Smart City Journal, bee smart city GmbH, Bitkom and Open & Agile Smart Cities & Communities (OASC).

Our featured projects—DOME Marketplace, BeOpen-DEP, CitCom.ai (Testing AI and Robotics in Smart Communities), European Data Space for Smart Communities, DIDYMOS-XR Project, and ENERSHARE—demonstrated cutting-edge advancements in data spaces, AI, and robotics. These initiatives reflect FIWARE’s strong commitment to driving sustainable, data-driven urban transformation.

We were honored to host visits from delegations and officials interested in exploring new partnership opportunities. Cities such as Shenzhen, Riyadh, Qiddiya City, Posadas, and Curitiba visited our booth, expressing their interest in how FIWARE can assist them in achieving their smart city goals and data solutions.

We also welcomed representatives from CIGA (Consórcio de Inovação na Gestão Pública) in Brazil, the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Baden-Württemberg, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, Universidade do Minho, GovTech Midtjylland in Denmark, Diputació de Barcelona, the Government of Canelones in Uruguay, the Government of Buenos Aires, and Mitsubishi Electric. All of these organizations are exploring new opportunities for collaboration.

A standout moment of the event was Clara Pezuela’s presentation, which highlighted FIWARE’s commitment to ethical AI, open-source transparency, and the empowerment of citizen-centered solutions.

We would like to extend a special thanks to our Board members, Björn Schwarze and Yasunori Mochizuki, as well as Juanjo Hierro, the Chairman of the FIWARE Technical Steering Committee, for their unwavering support and dedication in making this event a success.

SCEWC 2024 has truly underlined the global momentum behind FIWARE’s vision, propelling cities worldwide toward a smarter and more inclusive future.
