The FIWARE 8.5.1 Release is Now Live

Jan 22, 2025Tech

FIWARE tech releases come in two varieties: the main annual release, which is scheduled to coincide with the FIWARE Global Summit, and regular patch releases that occur as needed. These patch releases allow for important updates to components, bug fixes, and security patches. They ensure that users can easily identify the latest stable versions of components and that these components work together seamlessly.

The window for the end-of-year release has recently closed, resulting in updates to all NGSI-LD context brokers: Stellio 2.19.0, Scorpio 5.0.6, and Orion-LD 1.8.0. The functionality of these context brokers is now aligning towards the latest 1.8.1 NGSI-LD ETSI specification version. Detailed information about the compatibility of each context broker is available online, and further testing is scheduled for next month’s ETSI NGSI-LD Plug Test.

In addition to the brokers, the security components of the FIWARE Data Space Connector are also consistently releasing updates. Recent highlights include an expansion of the JWT token formats supported by the VC Verifier, as well as additional support for holder verification within the Credentials Configuration Service. In the wider catalogue, recent additions have included several new robotics components: a new IoT Agent for AAS, and a user interface component for configuring IoT Agents.

The images for all these FIWARE Generic Enabler components are available on both Quay.io and Docker Hub. These cloned FIWARE container images are duplicates of the original source components created by the development teams. However, they can be easily found in one location and are also accessible from the Generic Enablers webpage on the FIWARE website, which now lists over sixty FIWARE-compatible components in regular use.

You can find complete details about the release in the FIWARE 8.5.1 release note.
