FIWARE Partnering with the NIST Global City Teams Challenge 2016

FIWARE is partnering with the Global City Teams Challenge 2016 programme, GCTC2016, which is being organised under the lead of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). FIWARE and GCTC share common objectives to provide cities and their stakeholders with an environment and a programme that can help them replicate smart cities solutions and services that are efficient and scalable, as announced on 16 September by NIST.

FIWARE participates in GCTC2016 with the goal of showcasing the benefits coming from the adoption of common “de facto” standard technologies in and for smart cities that FIWARE has been developing over the last few years. Global de facto standards for portability and interoperability will indeed contribute to the creation of a truly sizeable market for smart city services, where developers and solution integrators can invest with a global outlook on sustainable business models.

FIWARE provides an open source implementation of the key standards promoted by the Open and Agile Smart Cities initiative, which currently groups together more than 60 cities in 12 different countries.

Through its participation with GCT2016, FIWARE also contributes to building up and strengthening sustainable innovation ecosystems, leveraging on its valuable experience in engaging with relevant players at the European and international level.

Besides FIWARE, several other leading partners worldwide have been engaged, including US Ignite, a non-profit organization focused on the creation of next-generation Internet applications that provides transformative public benefit. They have been working alongside FIWARE during the last year, as well as several private and public partners from the USA, the Netherlands and Korea.

FIWARE is now starting to prepare the next GCTC2016 Event, a 2-day workshop being organised on November 12th and 13th, 2015, at NIST’s Gaithersburg, MD – registration to the 2 day workshop is now open.

Stay tuned to the FIWARE channels for more information to be coming soon!
