FIWARE Foundation and the CIGA partner to ignite innovation and power Smart City transformation in Brazil

Berlin, June 25th 2024 – FIWARE Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes the adoption of open standards through the use of Open Source technologies for the development of smart solutions, is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with CIGA, a Consortium on Innovation for the Public Administration in Brazil.

This strategic partnership empowers cities to unlock their full potential for sustainable development based on open standards. The comprehensive MoU goes beyond technology, connecting CIGA and the cities they represent to FIWARE Innovation Hub’s global network, which fosters an ecosystem of knowledge sharing and collaboration.

São Martinho, municipality of Amurel in SC, was the consortium pilot city implementing a dataspace on climate event management and smart tourism, with the case presented during the Summit Cidades in Florianópolis, SC.

As an outcome of this MOU, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) is partnering with CIGA with the intent to create two new iHubs in Brazil, in Florianopolis and Natal respectively. FIWARE and UFRN are formalizing their membership during the FIWARE members’ visit in Brazil at the end of June 2024.

FIWARE is being used extensively in more than 350 cities around the globe. In Brazil FIWARE is being implemented in the integration of IoT solutions and software solutions for a higher efficiency in water management in Sao Paulo. This MOU opens the door to more cities to expand and benefit in diverse domains from FIWARE through CIGA.
