FIWARE R & D Projects: ODALA

Creation of collaborative, secure and replicable Open Source ‘Data Lakes’ for cities and re-use of legacy city data.

Objective

The Action will contribute to Public Open Data DSI by enabling the automated identification and re-use of legacy city data and providing an open source software platform that enables the combining of that data with real-time data collected from Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and other Smart data sources.

This will be achieved by the development and deployment of a unified ‘Hybrid Data Lake’, initially in the City of Kiel, and subsequently in Heidelberg, Antwerp, St. Quentin, Cartagena and the region of Flanders. The ‘Data Lake’ technology will enable the development of new products and services using technologies of Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

To demonstrate the potential impacts, technical partners in this project will develop and deploy replicable and scalable use cases in the 6 participating cities/regions in the domains of Mobility (use case 1) and Environmental Sensing (use case 2).

Ultimately, the objective of the consortium is to make new datasets available through the EU Data Portal by leveraging the use of existing technologies (such as the CEF Context Broker), basing the approach on existing EU-wide standards (Minimal Interoperability Mechanisms – MIMs) and ensuring the impacts are scaled across the EU.
