We are excited to be launching the first edition of the FIWARE4Cities booklet. FIWARE is up and running in more than 200 cities in over 30 countries worldwide. This booklet, which comprises 36 cities and 41 solutions from 13 countries across the globe, is a footprint of how FIWARE has been helping cities worldwide to get their smart city projects off the ground. It aims to help cities understand the potential of open source technology and open common standards, as well as to help private-sector companies and citizens prepare for the coming wave of change.
In this first edition, you will find leading cities from across the globe that have already found the right partner to accompany them on their digital vision. By following and using FIWARE’s open common standards and technology, these cities, ranging from Europe and Asia to North and South America, are delivering state-of-the-art smart, digital, sustainable, and effective strategies and public services.
With interesting forewords from Ulrich Ahle (CEO, FIWARE Foundation), Dario Avallone (Chairman, FIWARE Foundation Board of Directors) and Renato De Castro (Smart city expert and author of “City SmartUp”), as well as voices from global thought-leaders from Europe (Bettina Tratz-Ryan, Research Vice-President, Gartner), East Asia (Kyong-Yul Lee, Secretary-General, WeGO), the USA (Jason Whittet, Digital Innovation Lead Smart Cities, Amazon Web Services) and LATAM (Jaime Ruiz Huescar, Co-Founder, CITIES FORUM), the booklet highlights the need for interoperability and standardization and acts as inspiration for cities and private companies aiming to speed up the digital transformation process.
